The road to Caldera is a reality after 30 years. This route is 77 kilometers long and connects San José with Central Pacific in just 45 minutes.
The road was built by concessionaire Autopistas del Sol, which will have the right to exploit the roadway during the next 25 years.
More than 7 million liters of asphalt and 480.000 tons of pavement were needed to complete the new road connecting the capital city to the Caldera harbor; the total cost went up to $250 million financed by the concessionaire, the Costa Rican government and a loan from Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID).
This road, together with the completion of Costanera Sur, will allow a more expeditious entry into the Central Pacific and Southern Costa Rica.
The tax that travelers will have to pay on their way between San José and Puntarenas will be approximately ¢1.500 for light vehicles.
